Wu-Tang Clan Are Going On Tour To Celebrate 25 Years Of 36 Chambers (Video)

Later this year, the legendary Wu-Tang Clan will celebrate the 25th-anniversary of their classic debut album, Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). In November of 1993, nine MCs came together for the Loud/RCA Records release that would lay a foundation for the “killa bees” to swarm the industry with an unconventional style of Hip-Hop.

In the last 25 years, the Wu has suffered the tremendous loss of Ol’ Dirty Bastard. The beloved Brooklyn, New York MC who previously belonged to All In Together Now with RZA and GZA, died of a drug overdose in 2004. Since then, the group has made a series of albums and compilations. One such project, Once A Time In Shaolin was kept to a single master copy and sold at auction for $2 million. Purchased by pharmaceutical investor Martin Shkreli, the album was since forfeited amidst a securities fraud conviction and prison sentence. Longtime affiliate Cappadonna has stepped in on the road and been a fixture of many projects. Meanwhile, U-God notably sat out 2017’s The Saga Continues album. That independent affair, on the group’s newly launched 36 Chambers, LLC, featured beats by Mathematics, with RZA serving as a vocalist and executive producer. Less than three months after release, U-God appeared on an official remix to “Hood Go Bang,” alongside Method Man, Raekwon, and Redman. U-God since published a memoir and publicly explained his ongoing seven-figure lawsuit with the Clan and personal gripes with his team. Meanwhile, RZA also responded to those charges, while the suit reportedly remains unsettled.

Despite the internal conflicts, Wu has charged ahead. Having already performed at May’s Soundset Festival in Minnesota and confirmed a spot at 2018’s A3C, the Clan is embarking on a full-on 25th-anniversary tour. Dates and venues are forthcoming. However the group confirmed the news on social media:

A video shared by Wu’s official IG account states that RZA, GZA, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Method Man, Masta Killa, Inspectah Deck, U-God Mathematics, and Cappadonna are involved in the special tour.

Moreover, The Saga Continues, which debuted at #15 on the Top 200, is getting dressed up with what appears to be an expanded remix release. The Saga Continues (Pearl Harbor Deluxe Edition) is slated to drop on August 10. Pharoahe Monch and Smif-n-Wessun’s Tek are confirmed guests to the “Pearl Harbor (Remix).” The original Mathematics-produced track appears on the October 2017 release and featured verses from Method Man, RZA, Ghostface Killah, as well as the late Sean Price. The packaging for what appears to be the vinyl recreates a newspaper following the December 7, 1941, Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service attack on Pearl Harbor. More than 2,400 Americans were killed in the military strike. The next day, the United States declared war on Japan, with World War II ensuing. Advertising states that instrumentals are also included.

Monch has worked with Wu members throughout his career. He and RZA both appeared on Sway & King Tech’s “The Anthem.” He appeared on The Abbott’s The Man With The Iron Fists soundtrack, opposite G.F.K. and M.O.P. on “Black Out,” and later on Ghost’s “Emergency Procedure.” Meth’ also appeared on his famed “Simon Says (Remix).” Rae’ appeared on Smif-n-Wessun’s “Black Trump” video single during their Cocoa Brovas period. Chef returned for “Prevail” in 2011. Last year, Tek, General Steele, and Rockness joined Meth’, Rae’, and Rebel INS for a special collaboration (embedded below) on Sean Price’s posthumous album.

Last year, Ambrosia For Heads included The Saga Continues in our “15 Best Hip-Hop Albums Of 2017” list.
