Shateish Teams Up With Rapsody on the Bluesy ‘Hurt Away’ [LISTEN]

R&B singer Shateish may not be a familiar name, but she’s been putting in work with the help of producer Nottz since 2008. The Portsmouth, Va. native has appeared on tracks with Scarface (“Still Here”), Pusha T (“How Many Tears”) and The Game (“Blood Moon”).

Shateish just released a new bluesy track called “Hurt Away” featuring Rapsody. The song is from her Nottz-produced EP The Re-Awakening, which is dedicated it to ’60s R&B singer Ruby Johnson who recorded songs with the late Isaac Hayes at the Stax subsidiary label, Volt.

“Hurt Away,” is an contemporary cover of Johnson’s 1966 hit single, “I’ll Run Your Hurt Away.” On the song, Shateish sings of mending broken hearts and re-igniting her lover’s passion that since dimmed.

“Somebody took away that warm glow that used to be in your eyes,” she sings. “But if you let me lit up a little everyday / I know I will run your hurt away.”

The song definitely has a Stax-era vibe to it and Rapsody delivers a great verse that matches to the song’s theme of mending broken hearts.

“Shateish’s voice is so old school” Nottz told Mass Appeal about the song. “We need so much more of that.” True indeed.

If you truly want to hear Shateish’s vocal power, peep her Etta James-influenced song, “I’m Leavin’” below.
