Donald Glover’s Atlanta Has Been Nominated For 16 Emmy Awards

Just two months after the final episode of Season 2 aired, the award season heats up for Donald Glover’s Atlanta. The FX series created by and starring the actor and musician known by stage-name Childish Gambino has received 16 Emmy Award nominations. For Glover, four of those inclusions relate to his acting, writing, and episode direction.

Among the possible awards (taking place September 17 at Los Angeles, California’s Microsoft Theater), Atlanta is nominated for “Outstanding Comedy Series.” Two particular Season 2 episodes, “Alligator Man” and “Barbershop,” are singled out for “Outstanding Writing In A Comedy Series.” The former, which kicked off the second season, was Glover’s script.

The show’s creator received nods in “Best Lead Actor In A Comedy Series” and “Best Directing In A Comedy Series” for his “FUBU” episode. Separate from Atlanta, Glover is also nominated for his SNL guest appearance in the “Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series” category. He will compete against Atlanta‘s guest, Katt Williams in that same field. Hamilton‘s Lin-Manuel Miranda is also in the group for his appearance on Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Donald is not the only member of the cast or show production to be singled out. Brian Tyree Henry’s portrayal of “Paper Boi” lands him “Best Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series” nod, where he will compete against SNL‘s Kenan Thompson and Alec Baldwin. Meanwhile, Zazie Beetz’ depiction of “Vanessa ‘Van’ Keefer” earns her the same honors for the actress category. She will compete against SNL‘s trio of Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon, and Aidy Bryant. This marks first-time nominations for Henry and Beetz.
