CeeLo Green Delivers Drug Dealers Lament With ‘Brick Road’ [LISTEN]
After a three-year hiatus, CeeLo Green is back with a new song called “Brick Road.” It’s a lament of sorts with the former Goodie Mob member reflecting on his days of “cooking up dope.”
Produced by Vinny Venditto and YNIGO, the song boasts a somber piano groove and a hip-hop-influenced beat. On the track, Green details the good and the bad of being a street hustler.
“You never know where to find me / Don’t use a phone, thank you kindly / Another soldier has fallen / Don’t worry, I will catch his body,” he sings, adding, “Young Lo will make it flip right quick / I’ll be God damned if I don’t die rich.”
After releasing the song, Green went on Twitter asking his fans for their support. In describing the song, it appears that Green was inspired by watching an episode of the classic HBO series The Wire.
“It’s that new work. It’s fly, it’s flavor and it’s the future,” he said. “Good music always prevails.”
There’s no word on whether the song will appear on a new project. Green hasn’t released a full-length album since his 2015 effort, Heart Blanche. The Grammy-winning singer is currently featured on Nipsey Hussle’s latest LP, Victory Lap.
