A$AP Rocky Charged With Assault. He Will Remain In Swedish Custody
Today (July 25), A$AP Rocky was charged with assault for an incident that took place last month in Stockholm, Sweden. As of last Friday (July 19), Donald Trump joined ongoing efforts by the US Department Of State to intervene with an ongoing investigation and detention of the chart-topping rapper, model, and actor born Rakim Mayers. However, those proceedings continue with Rocky facing several years behind bars.
On Thursday, Swedish prosecutor Daniel Suneson announced that assault charges had been filed against 30-year-old Rocky and two others. According to Billboard, the charges accuse all of three parties of “suspected of assault causing actual bodily harm, having come to the conclusion that the events in question constitute a crime and despite claims of self-defense and provocation.”
A$AP Rocky Is Reportedly Being Held In Inhumane Conditions In Sweden
The lawyer continued, “It is worth noting that I have had access to a greater amount of material than that which has previously been available on the Internet,” he said. Shortly after the incident, Rocky posted several videos to social media of he and his entourage being followed by two men in the streets of Stockholm. In the footage, they make numerous attempts to ask the men to stop, warn them of consequences, and more. In a captured sequence, one of those men appears to hurl a pair of headphones at Rocky’s security guard as a weapon. Meanwhile, a Swedish newspaper, Aftonbladet, published a separate video, showing what appears to be a physical altercation between the two parties. While the identities of the men are obscured in editing, Rocky’s face is shown. “In addition to video material, the injured party’s statements have been supported by witness statements.”
Suneson declared that one of the alleged victims is injured related to the assault charge. The victim’s name has not been released. Rocky’s bodyguard, whose name was not given, made a counter-allegation for injury and assault. Suneson said that the bodyguard’s case was closed earlier this week.
A$AP Rocky May Face 6 Years In Prison For Allegedly Defending Himself
Rocky and the two others will remain in Swedish custody until the Stockholm District Court announces a trial date. That announcement is expected as soon as next week. It was previously reported that Rocky was being held in inhumane conditions, with improper food, drinking water, and sanitation. He was subsequently relocated. Additionally, reports have suggested that the Harlem, New York native was denied immediate access and privacy to the United States consulate, something that ignores Article 36 of the Vienna Convention. This allegation violation of diplomacy prompted government officials including the State Department, and eventually the White House, to become involved.
On Saturday (July 20), Donald Trump stated that he “offered to personally vouch for [A$AP Rocky’s] bail.” However, that gesture is not allowed by Swedish law. The President reportedly got involved after being prompted by First Lady Melania Trump, as well as associates, Kim Kardashian, and Kanye West. ‘Ye has previously collaborated with Rocky.
