Talib Kweli Drops Surprise Album 'Awful People Are Great at Parties' [LISTEN]

Talib Kweli pulled a Beyonce of sorts and released a surprise album called Awful People Are Great at Parties. The collection is available on his Javotti Media imprint, which is named after Kweli’s beloved grandmother Javotti Greene.

The 12-song collection boasts guest appearances from NIKO IS, Problem, Aloe Blacc, Mela Machinko, Big Gipp, K’Valentine, Thaddeus Dixon, Timothy Bloom, Scotty ATL, Chazmere and more. Production assists were provided by Kaytranada, Thanks Joey, Cory Mo, Hi-Tek and others.

The album is full of thought-provoking lyrics and live instrumentation. Highlights on the project include the uplifting “Drunken Eyes,” the orchestral “City Girls,” the stirring “Wait,” the boastful “Delusional” and the piano-driven ballad, “All About You.”

On “Every Ghetto,” Kweli and Problem detail the struggles black people face living in the hood. On the groovy “Massive Funk,” Space Invadaz spit crazy lyrics over sparse productions by the late and great J Dilla.

Overall, if you are looking for hip-hop that elevates the mind and fulfills the soul, Talib Kweli’s Awful People Are Great At Parties is a project you should support.
