Clyde Kelly – LRx (EP)

Over the last year, CLYDE KELLY has made huge strides in his career – most notably with his Kountdown (Lil Wayne, Bryson Tiller) produced “Magic,” which has racked up over 700,000 plays on Spotify as well as commercial radio play in the US and Canada. His debut Album Not Rich Yet included notable features from Michael Christmas and Rome Fortune, as well as production from Toronto based producer D.R.O (Felly’s “Desert Eagle”.)

With his sophomore EP LRx, CK delivers melodic raps over bouncy, electronic production. The five-song project includes one SoundCloud-only bonus track, one feature from singer Emily Marie, and no explicit lyrics. LRx debuted at #39 on the iTunes R&B/Soul charts.

Hailing from Raleigh, NC, Kelly grew up singing in church choir. In college, he spent his time freestyling and writing poetry, eventually catching the attention of indie label Halliburton Productions and inking a deal. In early 2015, he moved to Long Beach, CA to develop his sound and wrote 100+ tracks over 18 months as potential cuts for his debut project, Not Rich Yet. He released that LP on November 1, 2016. With minimal promotion, he has racked up over one million streams on Spotify alone.

While his songs fit most neatly in the category of hip-hop, he rails against categorization, adopting the moniker “genre killer.” His lyrics on the surface are a call to positivity and universal love, but subtle melodic twists and lyrical connotations also acknowledge the less rosy realities of the human condition. In launching his follow-up EP, LRx, CK has never been short on drive or business savvy. Not Rich Yet divulged not only a deep self-awareness and self-confidence, but a ruthless work ethic. That coupled with his creative and strategic thoughtfulness will make him a musical force to be reckoned with in the coming years.
